Original Oils: " Green Green " Outback Landscape.
|
As storm clouds gather over the tops, the last rays of the sun illuminate the rolling paddocks below. There is a very real sense of impending storm and darkness in this picture, in spite of the serene, expansive nature of the landforms. A lone tree prepares for the next onslaught.
This painting is also a commentary on how we have changed the face of our landscape and turned much of it into a green pasture monoculture - which of course, is what New Zealand is known for.     Often though we forget that this is not how it was originally and that by removing the forest cover, the stability of the land has been interfered with. There are some parts of the country where only major reforestation with fast-growing species has saved the land.   All credit too, to the serious farmers among us, most of whom go to great lengths to care for their land and pastures.
Northland, New Zealand.. Oils on board: 30in x 20in. Artist's Collection.
